Ladies Rock Camp (LRC) is a weekend day camp in Philadelphia, PA that provides an opportunity for ladies 19+ to let loose for a long weekend and play rockin’ music together. You’ll start to learn and/or practice your instrument of choice* on Friday evening, then keep receiving instrument instruction all weekend. Also, you’ll form a band and work together to write an original song that you will play together on stage on Sunday. The Ladies Rock Camp Showcase is an unbelievable experience! In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops with topics related to being a lady rocker. All proceeds from Ladies Rock Camp go directly to Girls Rock Philly.
*Choice of instruments includes Bass, Drums, Guitar and Keys.
Who May Apply For Ladies Rock Camp
Any woman age 19 and over may apply. NO PRIOR MUSICAL EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. You don’t even have to bring your own instrument, but feel free if you like.
Date & Location
Ladies Rock Camp 2012 already happened this Spring from Friday evening, March 30th through Sunday, April 1st. We were graciously hosted by FACT Charter School at 1023 Callowhill Street in downtown Philadelphia. Our showcase location was at Milkboy Philadelphia (11th and Chestnut), a small rock venue in Center City, Philadelphia. FACT Charter School has an enclosed parking lot & is only 3 blocks from the Race-Vine stop on Septa’s Broad Street Line, as well as 6 blocks from the City Hall stop on Septa’s Market-Frankford Line.
Tuition
The cost of camp is $400.00. PAYMENT MUST BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. We also, for the first time, offered a work-share program to attend Ladies Rock Camp. In return we help our work-share campers find ways to do volunteer hours for Girls Rock Philly. You are able to pay through our website as the last step of the LRC application & a portion of the tuition is tax-deductible.
Ladies Rock Camp is implemented to generate funds and awareness for Girls Rock Philly, as well as reach out to women who support our mission. Tuition has been set at the absolute lowest amount possible for us to cover our costs and meet expected financial goals for our programs. However, we do have early registration options available.
Capacity
Space is limited to 25 participants, first come, first served. Given how well our first two years went, we are expecting our third to fill up fast, so get your application in early!
Enrollment Process and Confirmation
We will confirm your enrollment via email as soon as we process your application and no later than 2 weeks before camp. . If instrument spots fill up before your application reaches us, we will notify you by email and automatically assign you to your second instrument choice. We will add you to a waiting list for your first instrument choice. We will announce on our website when enrollment is full and our server will cut off application submissions at that time.
Cancellation Policy
Should you need to cancel altogether and you give us at least 14 days notice prior to the start of camp, you will be issued a refund. However, if you cancel within 14 days of the start of camp, you will be charged a $50.00 cancellation fee.
Accommodations
Ladies Rock Camp does not provide accommodations for the weekend, but there are several places to say nearby. For information about local hotel accommodations, please contact LRC Coordinator Michelle.
Schedule
About two weeks before camp, you will receive a detailed schedule of the weekend. However, you can plan on camp beginning at 6pm on Friday and ending after the showcase (around 8:00PM) on Sunday. Please take these hours into consideration when making travel arrangements and adjusting work schedules. We do plan several after-parties, including one after the Showcase on Sunday night to celebrate all your hard work!
LRC As a Gift
If you’d like to give the gift of LRC to a special friend/family member/loved one, just make sure to put the camper’s information on the application, as well as your own.
