Media & Other Fun Stuff

Hey everyone,

You may have heard me (Beth) on WHYY’s “Voices in the Family” talking to the wonderful Maiken Scott about Girls Rock Philly.  The March 12th show looked at the problems caused by sexualizing young girls & proposed GRP as a solution! Check out GRP on NPR to hear why you should never bike anywhere right before talking on the radio.

Reminders:  GRP will be representing at the Philly Roller Girls East Coast Derby Extravaganza this weekend, March 17th & 18th. It’s the start of a beautiful friendship between lots of strong women.

We’re also thrilled to be seeing & hearing some great music at the next Sugar Town, Friday March 23rd at Tritone. See you there!

Updates

Hey everyone,

Thanks so much for hanging out at Philly Sound Clash last week — we’ve got a dozen new volunteers & met lots of people supportive of what we’re doing at GRP.

Stay tuned — we’re moving closer & closer to confirming the venue & dates of Girls Rock Philly camp week. As soon as we do, we’ll put up online & printable volunteer & camper applications. We’ll also debut some GRP shirts soon, since we’ve got a designer on the case.

And we’ll be making some more appearances at some soon-to-be-announced events all over Philadelphia, including our own silent auction in April.Â

Thank you!

Our December 2nd dance party helped us in so many ways: we recouped all of our startup costs, we had our name in nearly every media publication in Philadelphia & we had some serious fun. Good times.

Check out photos from our event here — more to come as people send in their own shots!

We’re also on MySpace — be our friend!

Girls Rock: The Movie!

Scenes from Girls Rock!

Hi folks! Maria here, I’m Girls Rock Philly’s web person. While we’re in the early stages of getting prepared for our own camp, I wanted to let you know about Girls Rock!, a documentary by Arne Johnson and Shane King, based upon the experiences and community surrounding the Portland Rock’n'Roll Camp for Girls.

Check out the website for the trailer — it’s fantastic. Can’t wait to see the whole thing!
