Our Friends & Yours

Come catch GRP reps & our very own head Gear Coordinator, Allison Polans, as she participates in a new series of rock & roll musicals hosted by Brat Productions. Allison is part of Brat’s newest original production, “Three Chord Fiction”, which features 5 teams who’ve each written a new short musical in 3 days! Shows are at 8 & 10 PM, Sunday & Monday, May 6 & 7 at the Khyber.  And sorry, campers: it’s a 21+ event.

Fun Media Attention

A bit belated & outdated, but here’s the NBC10 news segment on Girls Rock Philly’s successful silent auction on April 6. It was attention like this that helped us find a venue at the lovely Girard College so quickly & gain tons of support from the community (including you!).

Or watch it directly on YouTube.

Auction-Packed!

A big thank you to everyone who participated in last Friday’s Cold Rock the Auction Block during First Friday… i.e. YOU!  What did you do on Friday? You:

*Were one of the 1300Â people estimated to have come to F.U.E.L.

*Supported 4 local bands & 2 DJs, all of whom won some new fans.

*Watched us on TWO local news channels that evening.

*Raised nearly $3,000 for Girls Rock Philly in auction bids, raffle tickets & bar tips!

*Should be proud & happy that you’ve made  Girls Rock Philly able to afford insurance, venue rental fees & some scholarships for campers.Â

Press clips & video are on their way, so stay tuned.

Media & Other Fun Stuff

Hey everyone,

You may have heard me (Beth) on WHYY’s “Voices in the Family” talking to the wonderful Maiken Scott about Girls Rock Philly.  The March 12th show looked at the problems caused by sexualizing young girls & proposed GRP as a solution! Check out GRP on NPR to hear why you should never bike anywhere right before talking on the radio.

Reminders:  GRP will be representing at the Philly Roller Girls East Coast Derby Extravaganza this weekend, March 17th & 18th. It’s the start of a beautiful friendship between lots of strong women.

We’re also thrilled to be seeing & hearing some great music at the next Sugar Town, Friday March 23rd at Tritone. See you there!
