Ladies Rock Camp is confirmed for March 30-April 1, 2012! It’s a Friday through Sunday this time around, at FACT Charter School. You can register online now & receive the early rate through Christmas, or read more about it first here.

So, we had the best camp week ever! Thank you to all of our sponsors, donors, funders, volunteers, friends, campers, camper caregivers, families, friends, and partners, as well as the Girls Rock Camp Alliance and all of our sister camps who held sessions this summer.

Thank you so much to everyone who showed to our first-ever Open House at GRP HQ on May 21st! We had a blast, watched as a pre-camp camper band formed in one of our practice spaces & very nearly gave away all 150 cupcakes to the crowd on the first sunny day in what felt like a while.

Now is the time we start collecting donations & loans for camp! Food, art supplies, you name it, but especially gear.

Girls Rock Philly’s equipment wish list includes:

A portable PA system
Amps of all kinds
Drum kits (and various replacement parts)
Keyboards
Guitars & basses
Short-scale instruments
Lefty guitars & basses
DJ equipment, including mixers, turntables, cables, etc.
Microphones, mic stands & cables
Guitar & bass strings
Old records for DJ practice
Guitar straps
Drum heads, drumsticks & drum cases

Congratulations to all of our RUN GRP Broad Street Run participants on May 1st! And thanks to campers Emily, who played at PhilaMOCA for their Gallery Walk on April 15th, and Eleanor, who played Shadfest on April 23rd.

Camp Week 2011 is full! We have a handful of spots on a waiting list, so contact us if you’d like to be added. Remember, it’s from August 8-13 and check out this year’s new artwork:

Girls Rock Philly is happy to announce that 2011′s camp showcase will be at World Cafe Live on Saturday, August 13th at noon!

This Friday, May 6th, from 5:30-8:30pm: the ING Direct Cafe at 1636 Walnut Street in Philadelphia is hosting an evening of art and music. GRP volunteer Hannah Zaic will be playing & 100% of proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club and Girls Rock Philly.

Saturday, May 21st: GRP will be hosting a table at the 3rd annual Trenton Avenue Arts Festival & Kinetic Sculpture Derby. Come by and say hi, THEN come around the corner to:

Online registration for Girls Rock Philly 2011 will go live on Monday, February 21! Mark your calendar for President’s Day to sign up your camper. Camp Week 2011 is from Monday, August 8th to Friday, August 12th, with the showcase on Saturday, August 13th & our now-annual recording day on Sunday, August 14th.

GIRLS ROCK PHILLY EVENTS:

Tuesday, February 8th: The Riot Grrl panel at Penn’s Writers House featuring Kathleen Hanna, Sara Marcus, Katy Otto & GRP’s Beth Warshaw-Duncan is full! BUT it will be simulcast & followed by a GRP benefit show at the Rotunda at 40th & Walnut.

Monday, February 21st: The Ladies Rock Camp showcase at Tritone at 7pm! This is a 21+ show.

Thursday, March 3rd: Camper band Shutdown Marmalade will be playing the Association for Women in Psychology national conference in a public show at the Hyatt on Penn’s Landing. Click here for more info.

Saturday, March 5th: Camper band Queens of Heart will be playing a benefit & instrument drive for the Kearny Public School in Northern Liberties.

And stay tuned for our April events, including PIFA & the 3rd annual Fishtown Shadfest.

And the Girls Rock Camp Alliance, made up of nearly 40 camps around the world has put together its very first camper band compilation album! GRP is repped on Track 16 by last year’s Queens of the Iron Cross, but all of these camper bands are completely inspiring & we definitely recommend buying the CD though CDBaby or finding it on iTunes.

Girls Rock Philly is back & better than ever for 2011. Here are a few updates to tide you over in the long, dark, non-camp season:

GIRLS ROCK PHILLY 2011 IS CONFIRMED FOR AUGUST 8-13! Online registration coming soon, so sign up for our mailing list over there on the right side of the page.

Saturday, January 29th: Girls Rock Philly will be a featured organization in the Valentine Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Project upstairs at World Cafe Live that morning. We’ll talk about GRP a little & camper group Army of the Eyes will play a short set!

Tuesday, February 8th: GRP will be the beneficiary of an AWESOME show at the Rotunda at 40th & Walnut Streets in Philadelphia. Featuring Girls Rock volunteers from all over the country, including Whore Paint from Providence & Trophy Wife from right here in town (after relocating from lots of other places).
