Girls Rock Philly!

Thanks for coming to our joint benefit with Music & Mentorship!  We have 2 new drum kits & a sweet guitar to show for it.  

We also have even more events to invite you to! Here’s the next big 2:

SUNDAY, JUNE 7th from 2-5pm, GRP is holding its 3rd annual silent auction! Lots of bands, drinks provided by Philadelphia Brewing Company, food & tons of great auction items.  It’s free to stop by, free to hear the bands, free to eat!   
Back at our original location: 117 South Street, right off of Headhouse Square.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27 — Sugar Town is hosting what is turning out to be an annual (21+) GRP benefit at Tritone! Featuring Acres of Diamonds, the Lemon Treasures & DJ Julia Factorial!

Thanks to you, we filled all of our camper spots for this summer’s GRP in record time! If you applied, your acceptance packet should be on its way soon, but we are no longer accepting applications for 2009.

But why not attend one of our benefits, like our Gear Drive & Benefit Show on Saturday, May 23rd at Johnny Brenda’s?

Or our 3rd Annual Silent Auction on Sunday, June 7th at 117 South Street?

(We’ve got one more camper space we’re saving for the auction, btw, so you’ve got a chance to get a deal on this last available space as well!)

**Update!** More good news: GRP has received two grants this spring!

Thanks to the Womens Way’s Community Women’s Fund & Open Meadows Foundation for their generous support of Girls Rock Philly. Both organizations do admirable work for their communities & we highly recommend that you check them out & support them if you can.

We’ll also be repping one more time this spring at the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby from 12pm-5pm on Saturday, May 16th. The Kinetic Sculpture Derby is at the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival on the 2000-2300 blocks of Trenton Avenue in the Kensington Neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA.

Hi everyone,

We’ve got the best news! The Mockingbird Foundation has generously granted us the funds to record our 2009 campers in a studio for a professional compilation album!

We’re just about ready to make some more big announcements — for our silent auction in early summer, for our gear drive in late May & for the big Kahuna, CAMP!

In the meantime, our PR lady Megan has been working overtime: she & Beth just did an interview on G-Town Radio on Sunday (soon to be up in podcast form).

Thanks to all of you, we made nearly $3000 yesterday at our benefit & silent auction at Triumph Brewery. Not bad for a free, 3-hour show.

Thanks to all our bands, donors, bidders & attendees for a lot of fun on a busy Sunday afternoon.  All of the money goes directly to the campers: scholarships for camp week, instruments, and rent for our year-round practice space.

Seriously, there is so much stuff you can get from us, it’s not even fair.

They changed their name from Sakura to Oak Oak Okay.

They set up MySpace pages.

They played Johnny Brenda’s & the Troc.

They play 3 upcoming shows:

Friday, March 28th at the Rotunda. 8pm
Friday, April 4th at Doc Watson’s. Time TBA (probably around 8ish)
Saturday, May 3rd at a Philly Roller Girls event.

An update on the Girls Rock! movie — it’s no longer opening at the Ritz in May, so GRP & the Girls Rock! Movie people are in talks with other theaters (and each other) to bring this film to town.  And definitely contact us if you have any suggestions!
