Here’s what Caralyn Green of the Weekly has to say:

There’s a lot to be thankful for when it comes to the Philly music
scene. R5 comes to mind, and whatever’s been sweating up the
graffitied grotto that is Medusa. Johnny Brenda’s impeccable sound and
setup are keen. And we’re all grateful for the tweaked radness that is
the Dave P. empire. Problem is, these getups are kinda dudeish. Like,
run by dudes and showcasing a ton of dude talent. That’s why it’s time
to give thanks for Sugar Town, Philly’s one and only longstanding
ladies night, and not in that putrefying “tits get in free” way. This
month’s Sugar Town features a particularly refreshing local slant:
neo-psych shoegazers the Private Sea, who recently released their
first full-length; the gritty and boozy Beluga; and Shooting Ropes,
which showcases the pop-punk side of Jill-of-all-genres Steph Hayes.
DJs Version Girl and CarryUs make the between-set drink-buying time
fly by with all the dancehall, ska, dub and reggae anthems you never
knew you actually loved. (Caralyn Green)
